I adore your work, Natalie Chanin and team. Love the effort, beauty, skill and care in all that you do.

But I humbly ask, that you please respect the true nature of giving as intended by the words and the phrase “we are not capable of doing great things, we are only capable of doing things with great love”, spoken, offered, and lived by Mother Theresa. Please, do not co-opt or manipulate this phrase of Mother Theresa’s for your own financial/commercial interest and self promotion.

      Heidi,

Thank you for your comment. In no way did we mean to misuse the teachings of Mother Teresa. We apologize greatly if it came off that way. We are a company that finds inspiration from so many places. We work to inspire others. Alabama Chanin is rooted deeply in a social mission. And that mission reaches out to women and men in our community, providing opportunities for them to earn a living wage, skill, confidence, and the income to support their families. Our business decisions are based on quality, sustainability, and ethical fairness, which doesn’t always work in the favor of our finances. But we believe in the work we are doing and that it is, in however big or small a way, improving the lives of others. We hope you will accept our apology. We will take greater care with our words. Thank you for supporting us.

Thank you. Yes, your business model is exceptional, and truly innovative. It is an amazingly creative, progressive and respectful solution to outmoded laws and otherwise exploitive wages that are standard in America. You have also subverted the predictable path of an item of luxury being a static, oppressive symbol of separating haves and have-nots, which is truly powerful. I am certain that you make decisions with your heart even as financial results must be respected. Thank you for considering my perspective.
