UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

Though it’s only February, many of our sewing workshops throughout the year are already filling up. Take a look at your spring and summer (and fall) schedules and plan a trip to see us in Florence. We invite you to join us for one of many workshops through The School of Making. Here’s our 2017 schedule:

FEBRUARY 24, 2017
CLASSIC ONE-DAY WORKSHOP @ THE FACTORY

At our Classic One-Day Workshop you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the physics of sewing, reverse appliqué, and an overview of garment construction with members of The School of Making Team. Suited for beginners and experienced sewers alike, you will work to create a hand-sewn project while you enjoy lunch from The Factory Café.

INTRO TO HAND SEWING WORKSHOP

Perfect for beginners, our Intro to Hand Sewing Workshop will cover all the basics, from garment construction to embroidery techniques. Work with The School of Making Team to create a hand-sewn project and enjoy lunch from The Factory Café.

MARCH 31 + APRIL 1, 2017
COMMUNITY PICNIC ONE-HOUR WORKSHOPS

We are offering three different workshops as part of our annual Community Picnic at The Factory. On Friday, March 31st, from 10:00 – 11:00 am, work alongside The School of Making Team during our Custom DIY Design Workshop to explore options available through our Custom DIY program. Participants will receive Design Worksheets, step-by-step instruction for designing your own custom garment, and your choice of 10 sets of 4” x 4” organic cotton jersey fabric swatches for design inspiration.

On the morning of April 1st, join us for a One-Hour Cooking Workshop from 10:30 – 11:30 am where chef Zach will teach you the basics of egg preparation and reveal where to buy the best local eggs, along with other tips and tricks.

Later that afternoon, join members of the Alabama Chanin and The School of Making production team for a One-Hour Stenciling Workshop from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. In this workshop, you can practice the airbrush stenciling method and stencil your own 10” x 16” Sample Block.

THREE-DAY WORKSHOP

Our popular Weekend Workshop is reintroduced as our Three-Day Workshop with a new and improved format. We’re opening our studio doors to allow participants to work with Natalie and our team to create a customized, hand-sewn garment of their choice while working with our most-loved DIY garment patterns and stencil library.
