Our latest Alabama Chanin Collection features two original pieces – The Swing Coat and Layered Dolman Coat – and several classic patterns like the Alabama A-line dress and Long Skirt developed in new colorways and patterns.

Last summer we collaborated with friend and talent Anna Maria Horner on the Little Flowers stencil, which you’ll find on our Little Flowers Swing Coat and Little Flowers Dolman Coat. The Swing Coat, essentially a shorter version of our Long Coat, is fitted through the bodice with a gentle flare at the waist. Made in 100% organic lightweight cotton jersey, the Swing Coat measures 32” from the shoulder and shows off the simple beauty of backstitch reverse appliqué.

The Swing coat also comes in the Little Folks stencil – another Anna Maria Horner design – elaborately adorned with subtle matte sequins, decorative stitch details, and variegated embroidery floss in a backstitch reverse appliqué. Both Swing Coats have a soft light feel and comfortable wear in mild weather.

Our classic Dolman Coat with crocheted snaps and gently fitted waist comes in two new reverse appliqué patterns: the Polka Dot and Little Flowers. The Dolman Coat – one of our favorites – is made with a double layer of 100% organic lightweight cotton jersey in a classic feminine style, with fold-over collar and various embroidered details.

The Layered Dolman Coat, with an extended base layer of 100% organic lightweight cotton jersey, is our standard Dolman pattern re-designed in a modest vein. A tapered fit and snap closure give the Layered Dolman the easy feel of an Alabama Chanin Basic and a soon-to-be classic.

The Faded Wrap Skirt, like our Basic Wrap skirt, is essentially an A-line style with tie closure, made in medium-weight cotton jersey, and appliquéd with a cascading layer of cotton jersey strips in rich Alabama Chanin hues and Faded Dots fabrics.

We’ve also launched a Polka Dot Long Skirt, an Appliqué Daisy Long Coat and High neck Jacket, among others. See these and our entire Alabama Chanin Collection on our website.

Would you ever consider sharing the pattern for the long coat? I have looked in the past for one, but this would be perfect for an expericenced DIY.

Currently, we only offer DIY Kits that are featured projects in the Studio Book Series. These kits are to be created in conjunction with the instructions in each book. Unfortunately, we don’t have written instructions or patterns available for other garments.

If you are interested in making a coat, we have a class on called “Hand-Embellishing Knit Fabric”. The project is a Vogue coat (pattern included). This is a good alternative. Here’s the link: (

Thanks for the interest in our Collection and DIY.
