The Long Coat and Short Cardigan have long been staples of our collections and are popular projects at our Weekend Workshops.
Both the Long Coat and the Short Cardigan are perfect layering garments for the chilly months leading up to the busy holiday season. The Long Coat is great for cooler evenings and is a perfect option for those who want to dress up a basic garment with a statement piece. The Short Cardigan is a favorite casual cover-up at Alabama Chanin, and is a good alternative to the Bolero for those who prefer a bit more coverage.
DIY FACETS LONG COAT
The Long Coat, shown here in our Facets stencil, is embellished using our negative reverse appliqué technique. This embroidery technique adds a unique depth and texture to a garment. The silhouette elongates your figure, with a slight flare at the waist and a button closure. The coat measures approximately 37” from the shoulder to the bottom edge.

DIY ANNA’S GARDEN SHORT CARDIGAN
The Short Cardigan, shown here in our Anna’s Garden stencil, is embroidered using our backstitch reverse appliqué technique. Like the long-sleeved version of our Bolero, it has slightly fluted sleeves and falls just at the waist. There is no closure, but a looped button closure could be easily added if you desire. The cardigan measures approximately 18” from the shoulder to the bottom edge.
