Alabama Chanin recently partnered with our friend Gina Locklear of Little River Sock Mill (and Zkano) to create a line of Made in the USA, organic cotton socks as part of our new collection.
We’ve written before about the textile and manufacturing history of the Shoals, and our current strides towards revitalizing manufacturing within our community (and beyond). Florence was once known as the T-shirt Capital of The World, and another northern Alabama town—Fort Payne (home to Little River Sock Mill)—held the title of Sock Capital of The World. We are proud to launch this line of Alabama-manufactured organic cotton socks, alongside the machine-manufactured line A. Chanin.
The collaboration features subtle colors that seamlessly integrate with our collection of handmade garments, Basics, and A. Chanin. The socks are made with certified organic cotton, nylon, and elastic and are produced with low-impact dyes.
Gina describes Little River Sock Mill’s designs and styles as “a bit more grown up” than her other brand, Zkano. Our collaboration is offered in two styles (over-knee and slouch) and a range of colors and designs.
The over-knee socks have become favorites here at the studio—some of our staff refers to them as ‘boot socks’, as they pair nicely (and comfortably) underneath a pair of tall boots.
Our sales team at The Factory has found that when paired with a classic poncho or an organic cotton scarf, the slouch socks make a perfect, practical, and stylish gift.
Purchase the socks, manufactured in collaboration with Little River Sock Mill, at The Factory or from our online store.
I loooove the socks. Bought 2 pairs and they are my favorite long socks. They stay up, yet do not cut off circulation…lol And they feel sooo good.
I just bought a pair of your socks – grey patterned with a hot lime/yellow heel and toe – and love them, love them!
Do you make the shirt that the model with the over-the-knee sock is wearing? That is the Best color, and I’m interested in getting that top. Thanks, and I am so proud of you for keeping this business going. I lived in Henderson, N.C., for 28 years, and they had lots of sock manufacturing there. I will always push Made in the USA. dph
Dotsie,
