After launching our Swatch of the Month Club in January, we received several requests for a more accessible way to sample a variety of our techniques before investing in a club membership. Our commitment to listening to your feedback and, in turn, giving better service, led us to create the Starter Sewing Kit.

Our Starter Sewing Kit includes three 10” x 16” pieces of organic cotton jersey: one un-stenciled piece for your bottom layer in Black, and two additional 10” x 16” pieces in Slate and Twilight. The Slate fabric is painted on the wrong side—for use as appliqué. Use the stenciled Twilight piece for your top layer, suitable for reverse appliqué.

Featuring our basic Bloomers design, this kit is perfect for the first-time or beginning sewer. Practice various stitches, embroidery techniques, and treatments, as illustrated in our Studio Book series. Each kit comes stenciled and ready-to-sew with all of the notions needed to complete the swatch.

The Starter Sewing Kit also comes with one spool of Slate #26 Button Craft thread and a selection of hand sewing needles.

For sewing and embroidery instruction, see Alabama Studio Sewing + Design or Elegant Stitches.

I would like to purchase one how can I do that. I design and print fabrics for myself and now I am ready to turn some of my fabric into clothes.
    My address is

    60 West 76th street Apt. 2i
    New York, NY 10023

Many of us have to live in NYC for work. I work at the Wall Street Journal as an art director. But I wish I lived down with you folks and your life.

Yay! Thank you so much! I am thrilled and so excited to start this journey! I don’t know what it is about a kit that makes it so much easier to begin but I so appreciate you making this available.

Thanks for this! I’ve signed up for your craftsy class, but want to practice on smaller pieces before I begin the actual jacket. Plus, I can’t decide on a design and color scheme, so smaller practice pieces will helpe make design decisions. I have the feeling that I’ll be making at least two colorways of that jacket.
