Allison Moorer is a friend, fellow stitcher, and a songbird. While recently visiting with her in New York during Makeshift, she mentioned that “playing DJ” is one of her favorite things to do. So, when I asked if she would create a summer playlist for us, she happily agreed.
“Summertime makes me think of vacation or escaping, so I chose a “getting away” theme,” says Allison. “I hope you enjoy.”
Below you will find her playlist—which includes perfect “road tripping” songs from Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, and more. Roll down your windows and sing along.

You are the prettiest woman I have ever seen, and have the voice of a country angel ! Please never stop writing and performing. I listen to your music everyday, and can remember the first time I saw your video, Send Down An Angel, WOW! Just amazing!
Ol’55 by Tom Waits is one of the greatest songs ever written. It always reminded me of driving home after finally getting together with this beautiful woman I had ached for all through school in New York (St. John’s University in 1970). And after this long night I was driving home through traffic with the glare of the sun and though I will never feel this good again. I don’t think the song was out then but whenever I hear I’m in that beat up car and I’m flying. Funny how those things so long ago can stick with you. Also Someday by a guy named Steve Earle is one of my favourites though between the both of you I could make a two best of lists. One CD you should check out is by Hurray for the Riff Raff. It’s called Look Out Mama and the song “What’s Wrong with Me” will knock you off your feet.
