LAUNCHING: ALABAMA STUDIO SEWING PATTERNS

As I’ve mentioned before, writing a book is no easy feat. It involves months (often years) of planning, drafting, edits, new designs, reviews, rewrites, photo shoots, patternmaking…basically, equal parts labor and love. So, I honestly surprised myself when I agreed to write another one. While still a work in progress, the end is in sight, and I’m proud to officially announce Alabama Chanin’s upcoming book, Alabama Studio Sewing Patterns. This is the fourth (yes, fourth) book I’ve worked on with my editor (and friend), Melanie Falick, of STC Craft and Abrams.

Around the studio, we’ve been referring to this project as the ‘addendum’, as it acts as a supplement to our Studio Book Series—Alabama Stitch Book, Alabama Studio Style, and Alabama Studio Sewing + Design.

LAUNCHING: ALABAMA STUDIO SEWING PATTERNS

Alabama Studio Sewing Patterns includes three new core patterns—our A-Line Dress, Wrap Skirt, and Classic Coat designs—along with several variations. Previous open-sourced patterns from the Studio Book Series are also highlighted, as well as included on a useful disc at the back of the book. This book also explores patternmaking, fit, and how to create a garment to fit your unique shape. We’ve also open-sourced some of our classic stencil designs, and highlight our New Leaves stencil throughout.

I heard you at two separate events say how much you did not want to write another book, so thank you so much for choosing to write this one anyway. Your continued commitment to open-sourcing is amazing.

    Natalie,
I remember being at your studio for a weekend workshop and you indicated you probably would not write another. Thank goodness you are! Thank you for doing this for all of us! I have already pre-ordered it!!

    So awesome!
I am preparing to move in to a new house where I will finally have the giant sewing studio that I have always needed.
Most of my belongings were packed up at the beginning of the summer to “declutter” for the sale of the old house. Only “necessary” items are still at my finger tips. Your 3 books are considered necessities in my household and remain near me at all times. Those and a small box holding needles and button thread are saving my sanity during the whole selling/buying/moving process.
Looking forward to getting to work using the new book in a new house.
    Cheers,
    Barbara

I am so excited about this! Your patterns are the only ones I trust implicitly and I recommend them to everyone. Thank you for sharing more with us! I’ve added this book to my Christmas wishlist. It would totally be worth the wait until April!

what wonderful news. i absolutely adore my copies of your first three books.
i don’t have the most proportional figure, so i am very excited to learn about
tweaking patterns to get a better fit.
thank you for all your hard work and passion.

This absolutely made my day. Having the greatest time reconnecting with hand sewing and finding the peace at the end of my day for my projects as I work my way through your other books, which are exquisite. I’m curious if you’re including any mens patterns in this fourth book? I’m making it work and sewing for all the women in my life as a way to honor them… But I am itching for a chance to sew a hunter jacket or a shirt like the ones I see Butch wearing in all your family pictures. Much love from a guy in Oregon who sews, regardless of the guy stuff I’m pre-ordering my copy today! You’ve changed my life.

    Congratulations on the new book.
This next comment is off topic but I fell in lust with the ankle boots pictured on the model above; the ones with the wrap-around buckles. Any information on the boots would be greatly appreciated.
