Giving the gift of an experience rather than a thing can often leave a longer-lasting impact. Whether it is traveling to a new place, visiting a favorite destination, or learning a new skill, each adventure grants memories that will last long after the excitement of a “thing” has worn off.
As the holiday season approaches, the workshops offered by The School of Making are an ideal gift for the maker in your life. The skills and techniques learned in each workshop can be built upon and will last a lifetime (several lifetimes if they pass on their knowledge to the next generation of hand sewers). Along with gaining new abilities, each attendee will be able to work in the company of sewers and be totally immersed in learning and fellowship.
Each workshop, whether it lasts a few hours or an entire week, offers curated lessons designed for beginner sewers or those with more experience who want to expand their skill set. Taught by The School of Making team, all workshops take place at The Factory where your loved one is able to join us for lunch, browse our flagship store, and explore the surrounding Florence and Muscle Shoals areas.
In June we announced the 2019 schedule. Find the overview below. Today, we’re also announcing the One-Day Embroidery Workshop, our newest sewing class. This class has a new curriculum that uses The Geometry of Hand-Sewing as a companion. The project selection will focus on our Variegated Stripe kits that allow you to explore various embroidery techniques. Participants will learn to use the die-cut grids in The Geometry of Hand-Sewing to practice and develop embroideries. These reusable cards can be stitched through for practicing or used as stencils for transferring grids to fabric.
