Expanding on design programing, we developed three new stencils for The School of Making that build on the design series’ connection to nature and geography. Inspired by strong graphics and the natural world are Abstract and Canopy.
With bold shapes and leaf motifs throughout, Abstract (35.5” x 31) is available as both a Mylar stencil and a downloadable PDF that can be used to create your own stencil. Abstract’s graphic design lends itself well to a variety of appliqué, embroidery, couching, and an array of beading techniques.
Comprised of two separate stencils, the elements of the nature-inspired Canopy (35.5” x 28”) can be used alone or layered. The stencils have registration marks to help with their alignment if you choose to utilize both in your design. Choose to paint both stencils in different colors, a combination of layered paint and embroidery, or for a textural 3-D effect, use embroidery techniques on both on stencils. Like Abstract, Canopy is available in Mylar and PDF formats.
Pair Abstract, Canopy, or any of our other stencil designs with our School of Making book series for appliqué, embroidery, sewing, and beading instructions.

Does the Canopy stencil have registration points for lining up series of the stencil, both horizontally and vertically? If not, would you consider adding those?
Thank you for your comment, Peggy. They do have registration marks to help in lining the two of them up before you use them.
I am sorry. I got the wrong stencil name in my first comment. I meant to ask if the ABSTRACT srencil has registration points. I did see that Canopy stencils have registration points for overlapping.
No worries, Peggy! The Abstract stencil does not have registration marks, as don’t intend for it to have to be overlapped with any other stencil in order to use.
