Since March of 2020, all of us have learned to gather and share life virtually. This opportunity to connect across the globe has been one of the few benefits of this challenging year. In October, and in response to these new systems, we adapted our workshop model and began teaching virtual sewing workshops from The School of Making. What we’ve learned is that these virtual gathering opportunities are here to stay. Today, we announce three new virtual workshops where guests can work with The School of Making team remotely to connect, learn new techniques, and develop hand-sewing skills.
New opportunities include the Journal and Swing Skirt Workshops which focus on the development of new skills, including the physics of sewing, embroidery, an overview of construction, and other techniques from The School of Making. Each of these workshops is suited for beginners and experienced sewers alike, and guests will receive the materials and the instruction for their own hand-sewn project. Find the 2021 schedule and details below:
Our Journal Workshop includes a discussion of the physics of sewing, reverse appliqué, and other techniques from The School of Making. Participants will receive a Moleskine notebook and the materials needed to make a cover to fit the journal. The January workshop will be taught by Sunne Mayer, a certified instructor for The School of Making. Sunne learned to knit and sew at an early age from her grandmother and her love of making never subsided. Sunne taught for 13 years at Fancy Tiger Crafts, has classes with Craftsy, created knitting and stitching groups, and has taught at local and national retreats. She knits, hand stitches, and is the Director of Yarn Development for Madelinetosh.
