“A letter should be regarded not merely as a medium for the communication of intelligence, but also as a work of art.” – J. Willis Westlake

Today is National Letter Writing Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the epistolary craft of hand-writing letters. Letters allow us to connect with loved ones, practice calligraphy, source beautiful materials, support the United States Postal Service, share memories and stories, and document our lives. This week, we feature two artisan events at The Factory. Florence-based luxury boutique Parker Bingham Jewelers will be hosting a trunk show at The Factory on Thursday, December 10th. Meet owner and curator Patty Klos, and shop her selection of USA-made, one-of-a-kind designs by Armenta Collection. Learn more here

On Saturday, December 12th, we will host a pop-up of Dessous by Sophie Simmons and artist Jacob Fulton.

Nashville-based designer Sophie Simmons designs Dessous—French underpieces for layering—which are sewn in New York using Japanese cotton long-known for its superior weave and weight, and custom embroideries from an old lace mill north of Paris. Dessous are not for fast fashion; they’re precisely what makes fashion age well — an investment that preserves elegance and luxury in everyday life.

Based in Florence, artist Jacob Fulton combines classical graphic design with contemporary mixed media street art, Western American portraiture, and Renaissance period religious iconography. Jacob will be selling his artwork and will be screenprinting and customizing Alabama Chanin t-shirts on-site.
